Clear, concise communication is a skill. To effectively express an idea to an audience is a challenge that businesses face on a daily basis. Connecting with an audience and maintaining their attention, trying to describe a new product or service, explaining how it works. You need every advantage you can get and every tool in your arsenal.
This is where video comes in.
The Benefits of a Promotional Video
A promotional video is a great way of explaining specialized or complex products and services.
This is the story of how one of our clients, ACE, used video production to share the story of some smart technology that they developed.
ACE, with Werribee Open Range Zoo and the Victorian Deaf Education Institute, developed a smartphone application for deaf or hearing impaired students and guests of the zoo. Their challenge was to create a video for the launch event that targeted prospective clients looking to take advantage of this technology.
I’d like to take you through the promotional video and give you an inside look at the techniques used to connect with the audience.
Setting the Scene
At the start of any story, you have to set the scene. In this promotional video, we began the video with a nice wide shot of the zoo, letting you know where the story will take place. Just so we are perfectly clear on the setting, the second shot is of the Werribee Open Range Zoo sign.
A voice over then comes in beginning an interview that describes where we are and what the narrative will be about. This allows, right at the beginning, for the audience to know exactly what is happening and what they are about to watch. If there is any confusion in the audience at this point, they may be distracted for the rest of the video, so it is very important to have absolute clarity right from the start.
Introducing the Characters
We are then briefly introduced to some of the characters. Some close ups with a voice over letting the audience know who the narrative is about, tells an audience what they need to know about these characters.
Demonstration and Interaction
To demonstrate the application being featured, we see the characters interacting with the devices and the application. Some clear demonstrations of the application in use, from start to finish, allows the audience to see exactly how the device will be used. A voice over further explains what is happening in the demonstration.
