Shooting a Music Documentary

We were recently hired to shoot a series of interviews in Melbourne with prominent Country and Blues musicians as part of a documentary about ‘Americana Music’.

 

‘Americana’ is a term that has come to define a number of music genres emanating from America including Country, Folk and Roots.

As part of the project we filmed interviews with artists including Paul Kelly, Kasey Chambers, Diesel and Shane Howard.

 

For the interviews we ran a two camera set up, with a mid shot, and a close up from the side, to enable the editor to cut between angles. We needed to set up fast, with the interviewees having limited time.

It was a privilege to hear the ideas of the musicians being interviewed, and to see them play.
