Here at Dream Engine we had a very busy 2016, shooting a huge range of events, documentaries and training videos. Here’s a look at some of the work we enjoyed the most in 2016:
Sam Bashiry is one of Australia’s most successful young entrepreneurs. As the CEO and founder of Broadband Solutions, Sam has created an empire from a single $1,000 router. Sam was born in Iran and came to Australia as a refugee, spending his first days in the country in Parkville Detention Centre. His inspiring story was the basis for our video, which was created as an inspirational short to promote Sam’s public speaking engagements. Sam was delighted with his videos, as you can see here.
Our regular clients Spalding Australia (and their subsidiaries Russell Athletic and Sherrin) contacted us to create some hype videos for their new ranges of men’s and women’s activewear. The shoot was great fun, filmed at the Richmond Boxing Gym which had an old-school Rocky feel. The brief was to capture a behind the scenes look at the photoshoot, which really showed off a loose, fun atmosphere, as well as showing off the clothes.
The question presented to us by the Australian Refrigeration Council was this; how can we get young people to consider a job in the Aircon and refrigeration industry? We worked with the ARC to find out what aspects of the industry would entice young school leavers and apprentices into the industry. First and foremost, lack of awareness about the industry was holding them back. So we took a “day in the life” approach for the video with three people in different jobs within the industry. By telling a story and showing the wide array of jobs available, the video was a huge success and is being used as a recruiting tool by the ARC.
Fulton Hogan is an infrastructure and road building company based in New Zealand but growing rapidly in Australia. Fulton Hogan wanted to show why they’re so successful, and why they are a great place to work.
To do this we let the employees do the talking.
We also showed off the huge scale of the works Fulton Hogan are involved in from airports, to dams to freeways. To capture their true scale we utilised time-lapse and drone footage, which was helped by the beautiful surrounds.
For our work with Stryker, we were presented with a serious proposition, to create a full series of 20+ videos on how to use the Power Pro stretcher, a high-tech piece of paramedic equipment. So not only were the videos important to get right, they had to show everything clearly and precisely. You don’t want to get something wrong when lives are at stake! The shoot was a gruelling week in a pure white cyclorama, but the end result was a series of videos that can show off the stretcher’s features better than any manual.
One of our more light-hearted shoots of 2016 was for cult card game Magic the Gathering. Magic the Gathering has inspired legions of die-hard fans who defeat their enemies with a series of spells and attacks, or at least I think that’s what was happening. The atmosphere was electric at the Melbourne convention Centre as the best players gathered for the release of Shadows Over Innistrad.
The shoot was a same day edit, which meant shooting the videos to a shotlist from our American producers, transferring the footage to a hard drive and delivering it to a studio in South Melbourne, to be uploaded via FTP to Los Angeles. It was an eventful, interesting shoot that opened our eyes to the huge reach of Magic the Gathering.
